SCROLL DOWN

A delight, a tiny walled town curling round itself as it clings to the landscape, full with Middle Age and Renaissance palazzi.

Recently defined by CNN as one of the 15 most beautiful villages in Europe, Anghiari will amaze you with an atmosphere suspended in time.

Enter the medieval heart of the village through the 13th century walls and fall in love with its Middle Age and Renaissance palazzi lining narrow streets and stairways. One of these buildings, Palazzo Marzocco, preserves some preparatory sketches by Leonardo Da Vinci of a fresco he was commissioned with at the beginning of the 16th century to celebrate the 1440 Battle of Anghiari, when the Republic of Florence won over the Visconti of Milan.

Once a year, this epic victory is re-enacted with a series of events that culminate in a race in which athletes from neighbouring villages, preceded by galloping horses, challenge each other in a 1440-meter uphill race, starting from the plain where the historic battle took place.

Depending on the chosen location, Anghiari can be the perfect scenario for weddings with over 150 guests.

The area surrounding the Clock Tower, known as the Campano, is just one of the many, incomparable locations you can choose from if you want to marry in Anghiari.

Dreaming of putting your celebration on stage? Choose Teatro dei Ricomposti, the city theatre inaugurated in 1789, or the square facing Palazzo del Vicario, home to the local Municipality and even the Palazzo itself, a true stratification of history that starts from Roman ages.

Least but not last, Via di Ronda, a centuries-old road north of Anghiari’s defense walls, offers a breath-taking view on the plain of the famous battle.

When in Anghiari, don’t miss to taste the Bringoli al Sugo Finto, fake sauce, a specialty to which a festival is dedicated, which takes place every year on November 11th. An ancient recipe of peasant tradition, but very actual if you are vegetarian, Bringoli are a thick format of spaghetti, pulled by hand with only water and flour and seasoned with a vegetable sauce, cooked with the same procedure normally dedicated to a gravy. And since there is no meat, here is the fake sauce!
