SCROLL DOWN

One of Italy’s prettiest villages, Citerna has a beautiful blend of nature, art, architecture, and history.

Citerna is a charming medieval village perched on a ridge on the border between Umbria and Tuscany.

Reserved and discreet despite the richness of its artistic heritage – such as the beautiful terracotta Madonna with Child by Donatello or the Crucifixion by Pomarancio – Citerna has nothing to envy to more renowned locations. And perhaps it is precisely this understatement that makes this small agglomeration even more intriguing.

Corso Garibaldi, the main road that crosses Citerna entirely from one side to the other, is flanked by the most important historical buildings of the village. Here is also the arch that leads to the suggestive medieval walkway along the perimeter of the walls.

Piazza Scipioni is halfway along the Corso. You cannot wish for anything better for your wedding reception than opening the dance on this impressive natural terrace overlooking the green Umbrian hills.

Citerna represents an amazing blend of nature, art, architecture and history, the ideal location for charming weddings for up to 100 guests.

From the terrace of the Rocca, a fortification of Lombard origin, you can see Mount La Verna, with the Sanctuary of St. Francis, who performed two miracles in Citerna.

The first in 1214 when, leaning against an oak, which however was full of ants, he commanded them in the name of God to leave: the insects miraculously obeyed.

In the second miracle, while Francis was preaching, a woman was making noise with a cowbell, covering up his words. The Saint gently warned her, but she did not stop, so Francesco said: “Take, oh devil, take what is yours”. The unfortunate woman was lifted into the air, and no one saw her again!

The entire territory of the Upper Tiber Valley, of which Citerna is part, is rich in gastronomic specialties not to be missed, but almost nothing will compare with the pleasure of a simple panzanella salad. Take your time to sit at a table of the grocery store in the piazza, slowly savour the taste of fresh vegetables, possibly with some good chilled white wine, and enjoy the magnificent panorama that opens up before your eyes. It is an experience like no other!
